We’ve been around for a long time to say the least. In the spirit of Throwback Thursday here is a look back at our history in the Kingston area, just to give you a sense of how far we’ve come.
I had a chance to speak with Jack French, retired owner of Alliance Alarms (father of our President Brad French) and he shared his thoughts on the growth of Alliance Alarms.
When was the Company established?
The company was started in 1948 and we had alarms that we monitored under the business. We were monitoring every bank in the city of Kingston. Then they moved them to their central stations in Toronto and we lost that monitoring so we opened our own alarm company and started monitoring businesses and stores.
What was the size of the alarm staff back then?
It started off with me and one other guy, just the two of us. Then as we grew, we hired a man and bought a service truck. We started off very humbly.
What were some significant milestones that the Alarm Company hit during your tenure?
I think we had about 1,200 or 1,300 customers for monitoring in the ‘80s. That was a big deal to us.
What do you think about the growth and how the company looks today?
I’m very impressed with the growth and I’m very impressed with the equipment that they’ve got. They’ve got the latest technology which is digital. We never had that. We worked through telephone lines and I guess you’d call it old fashioned equipment.
The alarm industry has improved so much through modern panels, detectors and lower prices. When we first started, all that equipment was pretty expensive so we saw very slow growth. The only customers you’d get were those with a lot of money and who wanted to protect something. Now it’s very affordable.
Alliance Alarms offers state of the art 24-hour local central station monitoring systems, alarm installation, 24-hour on-call service, advanced camera systems (CCTV), card access systems, intercom systems, loss prevention, medical alert systems, video surveillance and more!
